If there’s one thing PC gaming never runs short on, it’s creativity – and independent developers are usually the ones leading the charge with fresh ideas and interesting concepts. While blockbuster releases tend to play it safe, many of these upcoming indie PC games experiment with new ideas, emotional storytelling, and mechanics that might be completely new to most gamers. Here in January looking ahead to the rest of 2026, a strong lineup of indie titles is quietly building momentum. Check out our list of some of the top ones to watch for:
1. Slay the Spire 2

The sequel to one of the most influential deckbuilding roguelikes of all time, Slay the Spire 2 promises expanded mechanics, new characters, and deeper strategies for both newcomers and veterans alike. Set for a March 2026 release, this one is easily among the most talked-about upcoming games this year.
2. Replaced
Replaced stands out immediately thanks to its cinematic presentation. Set in a retro-futuristic version of America in the 1980s, the game combines detailed pixel art with modern lighting and animation techniques. It’s a 2.5D platformer shaping up to be one of the most visually impressive games of the year with a release date in March of this year.
3. Mina the Hollower

From Yacht Club Games (famous for Shovel Knight), Mina the Hollower delivers classic action-adventure gameplay with a charming pixel aesthetic and some cool underground tunneling mechanics. After some delays, it’s expected to finally launch in 2026 as one of the most anticipated upcoming indie PC games.
4. MOUSE: P.I. For Hire
Injecting noir vibes and jazz-era style into indie gaming, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a first-person shooter that puts players in the shoes of a mouse detective tackling crime in a hand-drawn world. With a unique cartoony aesthetic and a March 2026 window, this is one of my personal favorites on the list. If you like shooters, check this one out!
5. Unrecord
Using a police body-cam perspective, Unrecord offers a grounded and immersive take on tactical combat, featuring dialogue with options and potential plot twists. Its realism and tension make it stand apart from more traditional shooters, and the graphics look very realistic – Unrecord is one to look out for later this year.
6. Little Devil Inside
After a very long development cycle, Little Devil Inside continues to intrigue. D espite updates from developer Neostream Interactive being few and far between, dedicated fans are still hopeful the 3D survival RPG will be released soon. With a charming art style, Little Devil Inside hides a darker, more unpredictable survival experience across numerous landscape environments. That contrast, along with its ambitious scope is exactly what keeps it relevant among upcoming indie PC games year after year. Fingers crossed for this one to come out in 2026.

7. Never Grave: The Witch and the Curse
This action-packed metroidvania style platformer features a witch protagonist navigating procedurally-generated maps with plenty of charm and challenge. Slated for a March 2026 release, Never Grave brings strong indie vibes to the upcoming PC gaming scene.
8. Besmirch
A fresh twist on farming and life sims, Besmirch combines old school pixel charm with uncanny survival elements with a somewhat creepy theme. Your goal: keep the town of Besmirch alive by farming and tangling with various creatures. With a vibrant world and promising mechanics, Besmirch is one of the most intriguing upcoming indie PC games currently on the radar for March of 2026.
9. Virtue and a Sledgehammer
Developed by Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour, this title offers a surreal and atmospheric experience of exploration and sledgehammer combat. Its thought-provoking themes and distinct style make it a title to watch among upcoming indie PC games slated for release this year.
10. Over the Hill

An off-road exploration title that emphasizes serene landscapes and rugged terrain, Over the Hill offers a chill take on vehicular exploration wrapped in a beautifully rugged setting. It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on if you like adventure and sweet views with a relaxed pace.
